Independent cinema in Skipton

About Plaza Cinema Skipton

A single-screen picture house with more than a century of filmgoing woven into the town.

Our story

A town landmark since 1912

Plaza Cinema Skipton is a traditional single-screen cinema in the heart of Skipton, North Yorkshire.

The building began life as a temperance hall in 1873 before being converted for cinema use in 1912, giving it a long place in the town’s cultural life. The venue was once known as the Gem Picture Palace and later became The Plaza.

Today it remains one of Skipton’s distinctive independent landmarks, pairing an intimate auditorium with a varied programme of new releases, family films, classics and event cinema. A film club runs on the first Sunday of the month which is open to non-members.
